Message from the Director

Nanak Hikmatullah, MSc., PhD.

Director of the R&D IBS

Designing and building a programme like the R&D International Business School teaches you something important very quickly: the gap between what young people are capable of and what they are typically given the opportunity to do is far wider than it should be.

I have spent years working with students in Tasikmalaya and across Indonesia. I know how motivated many of them are, how curious, how committed to making something of themselves and contributing to their communities.  I also know how rarely the educational experiences available to them match that motivation, how often the content is too theoretical, too disconnected from real markets, or simply too distant from the products and opportunities that surround them in their own region.

The IBS curriculum is built to close that gap. Every module is designed with a specific question in mind: what does a young person from Tasikmalaya actually need to know and be able to do in order to pick up a local product, whether it is coffee, batik, bamboo craft, organic rice or a processed or brand new agricultural good, and successfully bring it to an international buyer? The answers to that question shape everything: the topics we cover, the sequence in which we teach them, the guest experts we invite, the case studies we use, and the Mini-Capstone project that each participant completes as the culmination of the programme.

This programme will not be easy. Participants who go through IBS will be challenged to think strategically, communicate professionally in English, understand financial structures and regulatory frameworks, and develop the cross-cultural intelligence that real international business relationships require. They will be challenged precisely because the world they are preparing to enter demands these things, and there is no point in preparing them for a version of that world that is easier than it actually is.

What I can promise every participant is that the effort you invest here will be matched by ours. This team, the instructors, the coordinators, the international advisors, is here because we believe in you and in what this programme can make possible.  I join Pak Rio in establishing that simple fact: The Future is Yours.

“We believe in you”
